Abstract
This paper challenges the misconception that the Bible describes a flat Earth, arguing instead that its references to cosmic stretching and flatness align with modern physics’ understanding of a flat universe. By integrating biblical exegesis, set theory, metaphysics, and NASA-confirmed cosmology, this paper presents a compelling case that:
The universe is the totality of all physical things, meaning it is a single entity, reducible to a unified whole in relation to Reality itself.
A superset in set theory is a singular object, meaning the universe, as the set of all physical reality, is fundamentally one.
A point in geometry is infinitely flat, and since the universe is a single totality in relation to Reality, it shares this property.
The Bible’s descriptions of “stretching out the heavens” align with cosmic expansion and an infinitely flat universe, rather than a primitive flat Earth model.
NASA confirms that the universe is geometrically flat, validating the biblical depiction of cosmic flatness.
Metaphysically, the universe must be either a single real entity (a point) or a mere abstraction—and since NASA confirms it has structure, it must be real and therefore ontologically unified.
This interpretation is theologically, scientifically, and metaphysically consistent, offering a new perspective on biblical cosmology.
Some claim that the Bible describes a flat Earth, citing verses like Isaiah 40:22 (“circle of the Earth”) and Job 37:18 (“the sky, strong as a molten mirror”). This interpretation assumes that ancient biblical cosmology was primitive and incompatible with modern science.
However, this paper argues that:
The Bible describes a flat universe, not a flat Earth.
