An Honest Examination of Jesus’ Teachings, Christian Political Power, and the Future of Faith

Abstract

Christian Nationalism claims to defend Christianity by enforcing biblical principles through government. But is this what Jesus actually taught? This paper examines whether Christ’s message aligns with Christian Nationalism and whether government-enforced faith truly protects Christianity—or leads to its downfall.

We will:

  1. Differentiate between theocratic Christian Nationalists (who want religious law) and cultural Christian Nationalists (who want Christian influence in law).
  2. Clarify how Old Testament theocracy was temporary and fulfilled in Christ.
  3. Refute the argument that "if Christianity does not rule, something else will."
  4. Explain why God's law is written on the heart, not meant for government enforcement.
  5. Provide modern examples of Christian Nationalism failing today.
  6. Offer a better alternative for Christian engagement with society.

Ultimately, we must ask: Would Christ have enforced His teachings through government?

1. Would Christ Have Enforced Christianity Through Government?

Christian Nationalists argue that enforcing Christian law protects faith and morality. But Jesus never did this—even when He had the chance.
